‘General Hospital’ ‘Hell Has Frozen Over’ For New Brennan
Things were just heating up between Brennan and Carly on General Hospital when the role was recast. Viewers didn’t take kindly to a new actor stepping into the role. But one fan admitted that “hell has frozen over” for them. Keep reading to find out why.
General Hospital Fans Revolt Against Brennan Recast
Charles Mesure joined General Hospital as WSB chief Jack Brennan in December 2023. Things were finally heating up between Brennan and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright.) But just as fans were getting invested in the couple, the actor announced he was leaving the show.
After a year of playing Brennan, Charles Mesure announced he was leaving to pursue other opportunities. Since the character was in the middle of an important storyline, General Hospital chose to recast the role. They tapped actor Chris McKenna to take over. Longtime soap fans might recognize him. He played a young Joey Buchanan on One Life To Live when he was 12 years old.
True Reason Charles Mesure Left Role?
A lot of soap fans were shocked by Charles Mesure’s decision to leave the soap. Especially because his character was so popular. One GH fan speculated on Twitter that a change in Brennan’s storyline might have prompted the actor to leave.
Jack Brennan recently recruited Carly’s daughter Josslyn (Eden McCoy) into the WSB intelligence agency. Some viewers didn’t like the way he threatened Joss. We’re sure Carly won’t like it either once she finds out about her daughter’s new career.
Despite fan theory, the storyline shift doesn’t seem to be the reason Charles Mesure left the soap. He was reportedly unhappy with the workload and wanted to pursue other acting jobs.
‘Hell Has Frozen Over’ For One GH Viewer
GH fans weren’t originally buying Chris McKenna as Jack Brennan. The character dropped his accent when the role was recast. But one General Hospital viewer took to social media to share that the actor was winning them over.
“Hell has frozen over. I’m a NewB (New Brennan) Convert” titled a Reddit thread about their change of heart. They wrote that they were originally resistant to the recast but Chris McKenna has won them over.
The viewer added, “I’m ready for this slow burn with Carly to ignite!!”
